Midway campground is, well, about mid way across the southern tip of Florida in the everglades on US 41. I was hoping for a night sky spread with stars, but when I poked my head out the door to check, the moon had washed them all away. Sigh.
There is not much to say about the drive, other than the road construction we encountered in the past on US 41 (the Tamiami Trail) is complete. It is an elevated section of road to let the water and animals pass under. Also, they are widening Krome Avenue between US41 and downtown Homestead. It is a busy and dangerous section of road. I was saddened to see more farm fields becoming housing developments. There is not that much land left between the urban sprawl and the Everglades.
We topped off the diesel tanks and disconnected the car at the Valero station about a mile before we got to Key RV. We had no trouble getting the RV parked in our small site on a narrow road. We’ve finally mastered it.
This post ends the daily blog for the season. I will continue to post when there is something of interest. That means of interest to me. I will post Andy’s trip summary when he give it to me.
I plan to spend hours and hours per day finishing up that Big Creek book I’ve been talking about for a year or so now.

Hello, Dinata. I’m just about to work backwards to read some of your recent posts. I note that you won’t be posting again for a while in order to get on with your book. Well, as I’m attempting to write my third book at the moment, I can appreciate that. I’m on the verge of putting my blog ‘on hold’,too. It’s so hard to keep a blog going and concentrate on writing at the same time. I’ve missed so many wonderful posts from everyone, so apologies for that. After a quick flip back over your recent posts, I can see they’re exactly the sort of thing I like – about places to visit and a lovely commentary to go with it. I’m a geographer/geologist by training and now I delve into history too. I hope your writing goes really well. Hours and hours a day at it can either be very wonderful or downright frustrating! I suppose it depends on just how well the creative juices are flowing. 🙂 Millie.

Thank you for your comments. I think we approach blogging in a similar manner, especially after reading your excellent post of Fountains Abbey. I had never heard of it and probably never would if it were not for your post. I experience something, learn a little bit, and then share it. I have been doing this since 2001 with emails.
The book is going to be drawn from my logs/blogs from our time as campground hosts in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. But it is a lot of work to change something from a log to a book! Then, I don’t know if anyone would buy it. I’ll press on anyway because I think it is something unique that people don’t know much about. I love writing about it; the proble is that I have so much material and I have to pare it down to book length.

It sounds like material for a really interesting and, as you say, unique, book.I think many people would be interested in reading about such a beautiful part of the world. I can’t deny that paring down all your information will be a marathon task. Depending on how much info. you have, it could be a question of being very selective, and choosing what sounds the most interesting bits. If it doesn’t interest you, it’s unlikely to interest your readers. It’s the same with the historical fiction I write. I had files bursting with research I’d done when I wrote Book 1, and took ages sorting out what I needed. So I wish you lots of joy in writing. If you love what you’re doing it will make it wonderful and so very worthwhile.

Yes, I agree that the parks are facing a lot of problems: tight budgets, insects, global warming, and too many visitors. Makes us wonder what their future will be.
I have read the girls blog, but my internet connection is too slow to see the video. Some times it is better, so I’ll check on it again later.
