Drywall

The crew was out working on the house two lots over.  I’ll guess we’ll get to watch another house being built real soon.

The roofers were gone and the attic vents were in place. That closes up everything.

No one was there when we arrived, but a truck towing a trailer backed into the yard soon after. They were the soffit crew.  They got out with their ladders and measured and marked.

I have not figured out what this pipe is for.  There is absolutely nothing of interest inside the house at that spot.

We left for home and lunch while all three were at the front of the house.

When we got back in the afternoon, the eaves were bare and there was not a soffit in sight.

But the drywall men were inside getting ready to work. They were playing loud and lively Mexican music, which I love. This one is putting on his stilts.

Two stilt-men wore several power tools on their belts.  They had long extension cords tied to their work belts and their tools plugged into them. He is getting wired and powered up.

They looked so serious.  I called to them: “HEY!!”.  When they turned to look at me, I held up my camera and they broke into smiles.

The first sheet of drywall went up in our bedroom closet.

This fine-looking young man was a pleasure to watch.  Andy seemed unimpressed.

Here is another way to use a step-ladder.

They were skilled at finding the ceiling fixtures after they got the drywall into place.  They measured from the center to a ceiling joist and to the edge of the drywall and wrote the measurements on the ceiling.  When the sheet was screwed up, they poked a hole in the center and sawed outward until they hit an edge (of a vent or ceiling socket).  Then, they quickly ran the saw around the edge using the vent as a guide. It worked most of the time.

I’ve seen stilt walkers.  I’ve seen ladder walking electricians.  Well, today I saw a bucket walker.  He walked all the way across the room on his bucket.

His bucket was wet inside and he left tracks.

This looked a bit awkward.  I was worried the plastic sheet over the stack of drywall would slip and he would fall.  It didn’t happen.

Here, the garage ceiling is done.

I walked out the back door to leave and noticed yellow paint.  The gas meter had been installed.

Today Andy told me, “I like to make jokes. My jokes are not for children though. My jokes are for groan ups.”

I got an email today.  Our completion date has been moved up to September 25.  That is when we will close.

Dinata, My guess is that it is some sort of utility service coming in or going out of the house. Ross

Except that all the utilities are on the other side of the house. Water, electric, gas, sewer, all accounted for on the other side.
