We found out this morning why the painters left their van in front of the house last night. They didn’t have a choice. A mobile mechanic was there working on it when we arrived. I suppose he got it running, it was gone in the afternoon.
One painter was using a brush to fill in the gap along the ceiling in the garage.
The doors were leaning against the family room wall. I like the zig-zag paint pattern on the long piece of material they had on the floor on when they painted them.
They did not take the pocket doors down to paint. They masked around them and painted them in place. Oh yes, I would have had white paint on the gray walls, for sure.
Another painter was standing on the very top of a ladder in the kitchen painting the top of the wall gray.
This one was working on the door to the master bath.
One had rolled up the floor protector mat and we could see how much paint overspray there was yesterday. The man in the background was touching up the bottoms of the bi-fold doors.
When we returned to the house in the afternoon, the painters were done and gone. I didn’t see any white paint on the front-door glass.
I think I am going to like the gray. It feels “soft” and soothing in there.
Sometimes, I look at it and it is too dark. Other times it feels light and airy.
In case you were wondering, the bathtubs are still full of water . . . and other stuff.
Here is your room when you come to visit.
This is the house about five o’clock today. The pile in the garage had grown. A big truck pulled up as we were leaving in the morning. One of the men said they were delivering more tiles. They did deliver some underlayment. Bags and bags of tile cement and several bags of grout. There were also fixtures soap trays, towel bars, drains, etc. for the bathrooms. While we were there in the afternoon, a young woman came into the house, went to the garage and rummaged through the pile. She took several boxes to the house across the way that is a few days ahead of ours. It was either a misdelivery or cannibalization.

The house is really coming along beautifully. I really LIKE your gray walls! But Peggy will tell you that I like EVERYTHING gray. It is one of my favorite non-colors. When I looked at the columns (I think they are near the front entrance, like ours), something seemed ‘missing’. I literally had to go into the living room and look at ours to see what it was. Here is a picture of our columns… I think we paid extra for the white trim “inserts” though. And PS, we went for neutral tan, I knew better than to ask for gray 🙂 .

Looking at the walls again today, I think I am going to love the gray. Although, I have always been a white wall person – so the house would be lighter and brighter. Andy calls it battleship gray, but I think that means he likes it. I did not see a picture of yours, but if you mean the columns on the front of the house, yes, they are supposed to have a cap and a base. I’m not sure how they are going to get on there unless they are in two pieces. I suppose those column tops in the foyer will be joined by some kind of base after the tile is installed.
Tan is almost as neutral as gray.

I wasn’t worried about the woman. I’m sure our house will get the parts installed before it is done.
I guess we don’t think much about houses or buildings for that matter. They are just there and we take them for granted. But, watching this house get built sure reminds me of how many parts and how much labor goes into getting one built!
