August 5, 2018 – Brunch at Mark and Vanessa’s

Cordelia’s business partner, Vanessa, and her husband Mark host a brunch at this time every year.  And, lucky us, we were here to get invited. We were definitely the grandparent generation so it was fun to visit with the thirty-somethings their children, and one toddler (who was non-stop investigating everything in the house and garden).

Mark has a passion for dahlias and they line the property and surround the house. These yellow ones were HUGE.

These were my favorite color.

I kid you not.  This dahlia is nearly as big as my head.

They had set up a circle of chairs in the back.  I took this photo late in the afternoon when people were leaving.  Most of the afternoon they were filled with people drinking champagne and talking. We were told that it is a tradition for Mark to set hats on two heads and take their picture.  We were the photograph for this year.  Everyone agreed that Andy looks like Lyndon Johnson in that hat.  Mine was a baseball cap with a Pabst beer logo on it.

Mark and Christopher posed on the back deck as I was walking toward the house.

I found Andy in the kitchen drinking a glass of water and snapped this.  I was surprised how it turned out but I like it.

Some stayed in the dining room close to the food, but many of us took our plates outside.  I took this last picture of the toddler and his father as I was leaving.

Mark was cutting dahlias for guests as they left.  Cordelia and I both came home with a large bouquet.

It was a delightful and delicious afternoon.
