I am retired and living and traveling in a motorhome. I just recently started posting my daily logs on a blog, but have been writing and sending them out almost daily via email since 2001. I retired and my husband Andy and I moved onto our boat. I summarized it thus: We sold the house, sold the cars, sold the kids, the dog died, and we moved on the boat and went cruising. It was difficult to get an internet connection while traveling back then, but I could write the logs off line, paste them in an email, and they would go out whenever I got connected. Later, I was able to connect with my cell phone, but only after nine o’clock when it didn’t cost me minutes. Now I have a hot spot and can get on line most of the time.
I blog my “senior adventures”. They currently include our RV travels and what I see, do, and learn on them. I wear my camera like an article of clothing and take plenty of pictures. (Yes, it is true. I took over a thousand pictures in one day when we visited Mount Blanc in Chamonix, France.) It began because I wanted to remember it all. When the day comes that we are confined to our rocking chairs, we will be able to reminisce with the logs and pictures. Then I realized that I could also share my adventures with friends and family and take them along with me. When you find something good, you want to tell everyone about it.
We are not doing any real adventure travel to far flung, exotic places, but I have discovered that there is something of interest to be seen and learned about everywhere we go.

I have been reading your blogs regularly and especially like the pictures and descriptions of Saudi Arabia. I’m sorry it was not a happier experience for you. Now I am really enjoying your fall pictures from the northwest.

There won’t be as many during the winter. I’ll probably post about once a week because we are not moving around.. When we begin our summer trip at the end of April, I’ll post every day (that I can). I’ll stay tuned to your blog too; I love the food.

Love what you’re doing with your blog and the exciting, traveling retired life you’re living. That’s always what I thought I would do when I reached this age, but unfortunately, I am crippled from Lupus and RA. I will enjoy reading about your trips and seeing your pictures as if I were there with you … from one writer to another … thanks for the memories!

Thank you. You hit on my purpose precisely. I want to share the journey with whomever wants to read along for the ride. The annual six-month trip won’t start again until next April, but I will post weekly while we are in the Florida keys for the winter.

I am trying to write a book too, but have restarted it at least 10 times, and that is after it was already written. But, I’m going to keep plugging away at it until it gets done.

Yeah; sold the kids is the funny line. Especially since I had to spend hard-earned saving to get rid of them. College and a wedding. Ah, but my daughter is paying me back with two grandsons!

I have never met (on line or off) a person who regretted living in a motorhome. It is a freeing lifestyle. We travel and are outdoors a lot. The best thing for me is being able to park in the grandson’s driveway a month every summer!

I’ve lived in Greece all my life and, since acquiring two foreign daughters in law, it’s amazing how much we’ve discovered and explored quite close to home!

Oh, I hope to learn and see a lot about Greece from you. I actually have a second generation Greek daughter-in-law. Her parents, along with other family, came to the US and now run a seafood restaurant in Ocean City, Maryland. So I have been to a Greek Orthodox church for the wedding (some years back now).
To me, Greece is exotic!

I also have exotic daughters in law. One is half German half Honduran, the other half French half Swedish. In our family who,is Greek through and through, that is indeed exotic! My husband jokes the grandchildren have Inca and Viking blood in them!

In response to your post, I travel often too and can relate to the troubles of not having internet on vacation. The reason is that we cruise often and even when we have internet, it is very costly on the cruise ship.

Dinata, I discovered today that something with WP has been terribly wrong. Although I signed up to follow you back in November, I haven’t gotten notices of your posts for a long time. All my settings are okay. I don’t know what the problem is, so I unfollowed and then re-followed you. I hope that fixes the problem! Sometimes WP can get a little wonky. Anyway, it looks like I have some catching up to do!

I haven’t been writing much lately, or reading other blogs because I have been working on the book. Things are not progressing as I had hoped. Maybe I’ll post some pictures now. I take them when we go out for our walks, but they are all still on the camera. That’s it. I’m going to do it right now.

I just wish she would call when she says she will. If she can’t, she should make a commitment. I’m beginning to think I made a mistake choosing Hugo House. You shouldn’t take on work that you can’t perform in a timely manner.

We will be hitting the road again at the end of April. Two months in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park again before the cross-country road trip to visit family and take in some more sights – and parks.

It is a wonderful place. After spending nine months so far (in two and three-month chunks), we have been amazed at all the goings-on in a national park every day. That’s why I’m writing THE BOOK.

I try to read all the blogs I follow, so I only follow when they look interesting, as yours does. Besides, it is a fun way to keep up with someone forty years younger than myself! p.s. My grandsons live near Milwaukee and we went to the children’s museum in Madison last summer. I had fun.

Yes, it is a great way to retire. Although this summer has turned into a bust with the Clostridium Difficile bug in my gut. We are relabeling our itinerary “Summer 2017”. Stay tuned.

OMG Dinata I’m so sorry about your illness. I didnt think much about it until I read about it on Wiki. It sounds truly awful you poor thing. And to think you are missing your trip. I had taken antibiotics after shoulder surgery in February. Then I got a urinary tract infection in March and again in April. I took 10 days of antibiotics with each. The problem is that the antibiotics kill off the good bacteria in the gut, which allows the bad bacteria, Clostridium Difficile, to proliferate. Antibiotics are the number one cause of getting a C-diff infection. C-diff is everywhere, but antibiotic use makes you vulnerable to it. Of course, I don’t know what alternative there is when you need an antibiotic. From what I have read on line, this is a growing and serious problem as C-diff is becoming more resistant to drugs and more virulent. And, it can be deadly.

Hiya Dinata. Phew, I always knew about the overuse of antibiotics and that its best to let your body take care of things but that’s just put things on another level for me. So are you sending your summer on the boat then? Certainly a great space to promote healing.

No boat. We sold the boat and moved into a motorhome. We’ve been land cruising for six months each summer for the past ten years and staying on the boat for six months in the winter until we moved to the motorhome four years ago. Right now we are parked in my grandson’s driveway. Two little boys, aged two and four, can do miracles for what ails grandma.

You can’t take too many. You can’t take enough pictures. I look back at some of our travels and wish I had taken more. We have been retired and traveling since 2001. I write something most nights but,when I read it later, I wish I wrote more (people’s names, where we ate, what we ate, the weather, whatever to bring back the memory in as much detail as possible. So, I’m looking forward to following your adventure tales too!
