Surgery

I had a bone spur on my shoulder. It was poking into my rotator cuff and causing a good bit of pain with certain movements. I went to see the orthopedic guy on Thursday and we decided to get it fixed fast so I would be healed enough to drive the motorhome out of here by April 22. He did the surgery on Monday. All is well as long as I take the pain meds. But, my arm is in a sling and pressed up against my chest. I am just about helpless without my right arm. I can’t take pictures.  Andy is literally my right-hand man and is waiting on me hand and foot. Yes, he even ties my shoes.

I typed this with one finger.

Thanks Carol! I am doing well after ten days. My shoulder was not as bad as many others with whom I have compared notes.

Wow, that was fast! The surgery, I mean. Dinata, take the medication as prescribed. Don’t try to be brave or you won’t be getting much sleep and it’ll take that much longer to heal. I say that as someone that had to take Oxycodin for about three months, give or take a day, for the surgery performed on my ankle to insert five titanium screws, a plate and donated cartilage from a cadaver. I had to elevate my leg as if I were in traction, for three months, for 23 hours a day. If you’re not the susceptible type, you won’t become addicted.

And let Andy continue to tie your shoes. 🙂

I have been reticent about the oxycodone but, became a believer today when the doc said I could take off the sling. Just normal moving around, not doing anything in particular, and my whole arm hurt. One pill and I felt much better and relaxed.

Sometimes you have to take it. It affects people differently; it can make you nauseous but it does help relieve the pain so that you can sleep or function a little. Good luck!

oh no. so sorry. hope you get better quick! our drama is that Fred is going to have to have a pacemaker. wants to wait till be get back in April. but i don’t want him to. it’s a “three-wire” type, the biggest, baddest, most powerful one that is made. i want him to cancel the rest of our stay in Marathon and get back here ASAP and git it done.

p.s. – no need to answer my earlier query about when you’re leaving for Big Creek. i see the answer herein.

Thank you! The doctor was very optimistic this morning. Three weeks of physical therapy and I’ll be ready to drive the RV again.

Today is the worst day yet – without the sling! I had to take some pain meds this afternoon. It hurt to put the fork to my mouth.

This has been the longest time I have gone without taking pictures since I got my first digital in 2000! And, I don’t know what I would have done without Andy at my beck and call.

Hope you have the use of your right arm soon, it’s surprising how you can type with one finger, I do it all the time, have arthritis in my fingers, two painful to use all my fingers on the keyboard.
All the best, hope you are ready for driving in April.

Thanks. It has been ten days now and the sling is gone. It amazes me how much my arm weakened in that short amount of time. I’m sure the physical therapy will remedy that in a few weeks.

Oh you poor dear. Soooo painful! Take it easy, and mind the doctor. No beachcombing for a while, okay? As a writer, I was in a cast/brace for 5 months in 2014 for wrist surgery. I tried the Dragon (speaking) software, but it was tough. Please take care of yourself. Let me know how you’re doing. Blessings and healing, Deborah

It would be hard for me to do too much; Andy watches me like a hawk! I just abandoned the computer for most of the ten days with the sling. I was able to use the mouse with my left hand, but it took so much effort and I was so spastic! I hope that wrist surgery is just a distant memory for you now.

I hope you have a speedy recovery, Dinata! My husband, Jonathan, was at the doctor today where we discovered he has three bone spurs against his achilles tendon — he has been in so much pain. He was referred to an orthopedic surgeon with surgery possibly very soon. It sounds like Andy is taking wonderful care of you! 🙂 Sending hugs!

Thank you; I am on my way. I have bone spurs before and can confirm: they are very painful. Hopefully, Jonathan will be rid of his soon too. And, yes, Andy is hyper-attentive.

I have a scan on Friday week and may need similar surgery. Met a physio on a train the other day and he said : ‘grey hair cuff tear’.

Prayers for speedy healing! I have a heel spur and other issues with my foot, and hoping to having a better feeling foot by April.(Just got out of a boot a week ago) They don’t do surgery, or so they say, so I am having orthotics made, and praying that helps! Take care of yourself! Great that Andy is so helping!

Thanks Debbie. Bone spurs are so painful. I had heel spurs some years back and they must have taken care of themselves; I don’t remember the docs doing anything about them. I hope yours go away too.

Oh my, so sorry about the surgery, I had the same exact problem on my right shoulder. It was the worse pulling up my pants, lol. Knowing this was over a week ago, I’m sure you’re feeling much better and since the next post is titled to say the sling is gone! Yea! 🙂

OH YES. Going to the toilet was an adventure in the sling! May we never have to go through that again.

Oh, Dinata. It seems I’ve missed out on so much by staying off my blog for several weeks. It’s a little late to say, ‘Get well soon’. It sounds very painful and, as it’s now April, I hope everything has healed up by now.
