What Is It With Hair Stylists?

I was having a good hair day. After I got out of the shower, my hair made itself into the hairdo that I like. It just needed a little neatening up. So I went to the Hair Cuttery. I told the woman at the counter that I wanted someone who would do my hair the way I wanted it. She sent me to Seyu.

I told Seyu: I don’t want to change my hairstyle. Just fix the transition between the bangs and the sides of my head. Also fix the length behind my ears, so the bob looks even all around. You can make it a bit shorter. I want a bob at mid-ear. Don’t cut it short up the back. I want a bob. Don’t cut it too short at the temples or my hair will stand out nearly straight and I will look like the Flying Nun. The natural part in right here (pointing to just right of center). I don’t want to blow dry or curl my hair. I don’t want to brush it and mess with it. Let it do what it does naturally. I want a bob.

Needless to say, I walked out of there with hair smoothed by 20 minutes of blow drying even though I told her I didn’t want her to blow dry it.. She said that helped her get it even. She made it short up the back! The part is not in the right place and the hairs that don’t want to go that way are standing up. She insisted that my hair was not stylish and she was going to make it beautiful. She ignored every direction I gave her.

Maybe it is a good haircut. I might even be stylish if I blow it dry with a big round hairbrush for 20 or 30 minutes and spray “products” on it every morning. But it is not what is wanted. It is not what I asked for. And, to make matters worse, this is what happens every time I go to a salon. Why don’t they listen to the customer? How much more specific do I have to be?
